CSA EXPANSIVE ADDITIVE FOR CONCRETE AND MORTAR

DENKAPOWER CSA®TYPE-S

CSA expansive additive for shrinkage compensation in concrete and mortar

Denka Power CSA Type-S is a highly effective calcium sulfoaluminate additive for cement-bound mortar and concrete systems. Through the formation of ettringite and calcium hydroxide, a controlled expansion develops within the binder system. This can counteract hydraulic and drying shrinkage, reduce the tendency to crack and support dimensional stability.

As the high-performance successor to Denka CSA 20, Power CSA Type-S delivers a comparable shrinkage-compensating effect at a lower dosage. The specific dosage and suitability must be validated for each binder system by preliminary trials.

  • Controlled expansion

Ettringite formation generates a targeted volume increase within the binder system.

  • Shrinkage compensation

Counteracts hydraulic and drying shrinkage and can reduce the tendency to crack.

  • Efficient dosage

Typical dosage of 3–5 % by weight of cement.

  • For mortar and concrete

Suitable for repair mortars, self-levelling systems, industrial floors and high-density concretes.

Bright modern industrial hall with polished concrete floor — application context for DENKA POWER CSA® TYPE-S

Engineered for shrinkage-compensated mortar and concrete systems: repair mortars, self-levelling floor and levelling compounds, surface coatings, industrial floors and high-density concretes.

Working principle

Formation of ettringite and calcium hydroxide for controlled expansion and shrinkage compensation.

Typical dosage

3–5 % by weight of cement. Match dosage to binder and target profile by preliminary trials.

Application testing

Dosage and suitability are to be matched to binder, mix design and target requirements through preliminary trials.

Compatibility

Suitable for Portland cement and hydraulic binders, including GGBS, fly ash and calcium hydroxide.

High-performance successor to Denka CSA 20

Denka Power CSA Type-S is the high-performance successor to Denka CSA 20. In Denka mortar measurements a comparable shrinkage-compensating effect, a comparable 28-day compressive strength and equal or better flow retention were achieved at approximately 80 % of the Denka CSA 20 dosage. The exact replacement dosage must be established for each binder system and mix design by laboratory trials.

*Comparison values are based on Denka measurement examples for dry mortar according to the stated JIS test bases. They are for guidance and do not represent guaranteed product properties. Any switch and dosage adjustment must be validated by preliminary trials.

Note: The stated values are typical reference values and not guaranteed product properties. Suitability and dosage must be validated for the respective binder system, mix design and target requirements by application-specific preliminary trials. Overdosage may lead to over-expansion, strength loss, increased porosity and reduced frost resistance.

SHRINKAGE-REDUCING ADDITIVES FOR CONCRETE AND MORTAR

NAMEX® Series

The Namex® Series comprises reactive mineral additives for the reduction of shrinkage deformations in cement-bound mortar and concrete systems. Through reaction with mixing water a controlled volume increase develops, which can counteract shrinkage in the hardening binder system. Depending on the product, the focus lies on the reduction of thermal shrinkage, on a mild expansion or on a CaO-/MgO-based reaction system.

2–6 %*Typical dosage: 2–6 % by weight of cement, product- and application-dependent.

*Namex® XC and Namex® MOX: 2–4 %; Namex® XA: 3–6 % – each by weight of cement.

REACTIVE ADDITIVES FOR CONCRETE AND MORTAR

Newchem AS Series

Reactive powder additives for cement-bound mortar and concrete systems. Through controlled early ettringite formation they generate a targeted expansion that can counteract early shrinkage deformations and reduce the tendency to crack. Depending on the product, the focus lies on strength development, shrinkage reduction or a higher expansion level.

3–10 %*Recommended dosage: 3–10 % by weight of cement; for Newchem AS A29: 3–8 %. Product-specific and mix-dependent.

*Typical laboratory results or recommended reference values. The achievable effect and the required dosage depend among other things on cement type, binder system, mix design, water-to-binder ratio, processing and curing. Application-specific preliminary trials are required before each use.

Technical data, dosage guidance and application-specific advice on Newchem AS A27, AS A28 and AS A29 are available on the respective product pages or on request.
